Wanted to make a follow up to this post I made at the beging of the summer.

With quick list of the movies I did end up seeing in theaters.

•- The Amazing Spider-Man 2

• - Godzilla

• - X-Men: Days of Future Past

•- Maleficent

• - How to Train Your Dragon 2

•- Transformers: Age of Extinction

•- Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

•- Guardians of the Galaxy

• - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Gosh it seems like there should be more in there. Still a good summer. I’d like to do some ranking and small reviews. Maybe answer some quistions like what movie would I most want to see again or which movie do I regret not getting to see. I’ll have to think it over and post more later, but if anyone can think of some quistions like that feel free to ask.

I just wanted to do a quick post noting that i did complete TMNT 30 day challenge last month. Ok i may not have done it every day but I did answer every question.

Thanks to litafan4ever for creating the challenge. http://litafan4ever.tumblr.com/post/37115531830/30-day-tmnt-challenge

Also thanks to all the people who have liked my posts. And a big welcome to the ones that have started following me because of them, hope you enjoy all the other junk I put up.

I really enjoyed doing that challenge as it gave me something to post regularly and an excuse to talk about one of my favorite fandoms. So if anyone out there reading this can suggest any other 30 day challenges or similar memes please send them my way.

Thanks everyone

I got a wonderful surprise in the mail today. My good friend valkyrie-girl sent me this beautiful drawing along with the book “The Four Loves” by C.S. Lewis!

I keep imagining a very tired Shepard giving Grunt crayons to keep him entertained. At least until his big boy mission.

Senshi Study Sesh!

This was the piece I submitted to the Meatball Head Sailor Moon art show in LA at Meltdown Comics! The show was this past weekend and was curated by the wonderful Nico Colaleo, who had a bunch of amazing artists in the industry contribute to the show! I heard that it was a blast, and wish I could have been able to make it.

So many thanks to my friends Gyimah, Ben and Scott for helping me out! I have much to learn, but was eager to try something new with environment, perspective, and colours. The colours have been tweaked since, but otherwise the drawing is the same :)

I’ll post some close ups later! Enjoy!

Superman #9, ”Metropolis 900 Mi.” by John Byrne & Karl Kesel & Tom Ziuko. 1987.

John was asked on his website:

Do you have any favourite comic stories that you’ve written either a) that you drew yourself or b) drawn by someone else - and I just mean the story so regardless of how well the art turned out. Story could be a single issue or a whole storyline or run.

John’s reply:

Two spring to mind, for very different reasons.

BATMAN & CAPTAIN AMERICA, which was a dream come true.

METROPOLIS 900 MILES, which made me feel something like an honest-to-gosh WRITER.

Pick either, and I will be content!

Photos from the upcoming movie, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice show that at least one scene will be taking place at Ralli’s Diner. I wonder if we will see Lex make Jenny an offer on screen in 2016?

Day 30: Why Are You A Fan Of TMNT

Really I think I was at just the right age and the right time for Turtles. I was about 5 or 6 when the animated series hit and it was the second thing I ever became a major fan of. I was there for every episode, I got as many toys as my parents would buy me, I was there in the theaters when the first movie hit. Hell I was there for the coming out of their shell tour, and I know somewhere or another I have a vhs recording of when the turtles on Oprah to promote it. And I came back for every new series or movie and enjoyed them all on one level or another.

The one thing I never caught onto when I was younger was any of the comics. But thanks to the internet and now many available reprints I am slowly correcting that.

But beyond my own personal nostalgia I think there is something about these four heroes in a half shell that I just connect with as a viewer. I think it is something that has connected with every fan of the franchise for all these years. Be it just the ninja action, or the humor, or the familial bond, or the whacked out stories, or just something about seeing four walking talking giant turtles. There is something to the characters that the audience connects with be it all four of the turtles or something about them individually. The ninja turtles manage to connect with people.

And at this point the franchise has developed such a vast mythology that there is so much to pull from there is literally something for everyone and anyone to enjoy. There’s a reason the franchise has lasted 30 years and I’m glad I’ve gotten to be a fan of it for all this time.

Day 29: Your TMNT Pet Peeve

I hate to mention it cause I know there are a lot of fans of it out there especially on tumblr but I really hate the idea of shipping April with one of the turtles. First I’ll admit a bias towards April being with Casey Jones. But more then that it seems the latest versions of the turtles have just taken the idea to bad extremes.

Donatello’s crush on April in the nickelodeon series is board line creepy stalker and has marred both characters in the series in my opinion. It has completely consumed Donatello’s characterization on the show where 90% of everything he does on it has something to do either with April or with him trying to impress her. It’s just disturbing and makes me cringe when ever he comes on screen in fear that it is going to be brought up in some way, and remind you this is my favorite turtle.

Michelangelo takes this to even creepier extremes in the 2014 movie by actually lusting after April. The fact he even mentions his shell getting tight or tries to claim her as his is just wrong on so many levels. And the fact that creators and viewers find any of this even acceptable let alone enjoyable just boggles my mind.

Day 28: Your Favorite Aspect Of TMNT

The turtles themselves. The fact these four characters are so unique and individual you can tell them apart even when they all have the same masks and appearances. They all have simple trope titles but even if they are not the first characters on a team to have them they embody the personality types so well.

Everyone knows that Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines that’s a fact jack. And that Michelangelo, he’s one of a kind and you know just where to find him when it’s party time. And 4 count on Raphael to throw the first punch.

Above all these attitudes and aspects of the characters are the things we expect to see from them. The one thing that the new 2014 movie got right was these traits. They are what make the turtles fun to watch, relatable even at their weirdest, and keeps them the same loveable characters no matter what incarnation it is.
